This class should be required to save lives…

If you have a child aged 12 and up, I strongly encourage you to consider enrolling them in CPR and first aid training. This is a worthwhile investment, usually costing between $50 and $80, that could potentially save their life or someone else's.

These courses are typically offered at local hospitals and last about 5 to 6 hours. During the training, they will practice on mannequins and learn how to respond in emergencies, including how to call EMS or 911 and remain calm under pressure.

I've seen countless stories in the news highlighting the importance of these skills. For instance, just a few days ago, a cyclist was hit by a car near my home, and a neighbor was able to take charge of the situation because they had the knowledge to act quickly and effectively.

It’s crucial to equip our preteens and teens with these essential skills. When I was a camp director, we required all our leaders in training and assistant counselors to complete this training annually. I can’t tell you how many times we had to handle minor injuries or emergencies, and having that knowledge made a significant difference.

So, if you have a child aged 12 or older, reach out to your local hospital and get them signed up for CPR and first aid training. It doesn’t matter whether they’re boys or girls; everyone should know how to respond in emergencies. Remember, knowledge is power! Take care, and have a great day!
