✅if you haven’t been following my other 2 or 3 videos- we talked about the access to books is so important for grades-for success in school and has a direct correlation to graduation and all of the things
📣📣and so today we’re going to talk about summer slump .
👀👀Why does it matter and why you need to makes sure your kids are reading every day in the summertime to prevent learning loss.
🏠🏠So here's a chart about summer reading loss.
🎉🎉The Blue Line are those in Advantaged communities that have access to books, that go to libraries that have books at home that kind of thing.
✅The red line is for families that have little to no access to books- little to no libraries at-home or no taking the time or having the time to-read to their kids.
🏠So we see a significant difference between the 2 levels of kids.
🤯🤯So if you don't have access to books at your home- do not dismay
📣📣look around at tons of local communities that have free book drops (see this awesome organization here: https://littlefreelibrary.org/)
🎉🎉 tons of libraries give them away for free (see some great resources here; https://support.betterworldbooks.com/hc/en-us/articles/200605957-Drop-Box-Locations)
✅✅go on the marketplace type in “freebooks”
🤯 eBay has tons of free or cheap books. (Www.eBay.com)
📕📕And also make sure you are streaming read alouds on YouTube (see this awesome channel here: https://youtube.com/@storytimewithfaye?si=I8hnCdvJLE8HoAkU)
📕📕 your local public library might have even a digital audio book app that is available to you. (See this free app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hoopla-digital/id580643740)
👀👀So make sure you are streaming books , having them play it in your home
🤯🤯 making sure you get free books because having access to literature and books is so important!
