Former teacher turned homeschooler and why thousands are doing the same thing- my “why” for homeschooling

📚📚Any former educators here homeschooling??

Would love to hear your “why”

As a former teacher who is now homeschooling her kids, I am not an anomaly. If you just Google "former teachers who now homeschool their kids," you’ll find countless pages of articles, Reddit discussions, podcasts, and YouTubers—all former principals and paraprofessionals who are homeschooling their children.

For me, there’s a clear reason for this choice. I can't speak for everyone, but I really didn't want to ask permission to help my child if they needed special accommodations, extra work, or additional time.

I also didn’t want to seek approval to take time off to travel with my kids or to let them spend time with their extended family. Whether it was a random trip to D.C. or just a weekend getaway, I didn’t want to have to ask for permission for that.

Furthermore, I wanted a great family dynamic. As a former teacher, I knew my work hours were typically from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., which could add up to 12-hour shifts depending on grading and professional development sessions. I experienced all of that and realized it wouldn’t fit the lifestyle I wanted for my family.

I've also heard from others who say that being in a public environment can be exhausting for them. Homeschooling has filled the need for those who want to teach their kids, foster a love for education, and build lifelong learners, all without the politics and red tape that often accompany traditional schooling.

So, if you’re a former teacher or educator in any capacity, I would love for you to comment below. If you're homeschooling your kids, I’d love to hear what you’re doing!

Alright, guys, peace out!
