The Shocking Reality of Kids and Screen Time
I recently came across a statistic that truly blew my mind: the average American child spends only 4-7 minutes a day in free outdoor play, yet they rack up a staggering 4-7 hours in front of a screen. I was like, "No way!" I had to check this out for myself, and to my disbelief, it’s true.

As someone who grew up in a time where outdoor play was not just encouraged but a way of life, this revelation hit hard. I remember the days filled with adventures outside—riding bikes around the neighborhood, exploring parks, and freely visiting friends' houses. We thrived on fresh air, sunlight, and the thrill of outdoor activities.
Now, it’s a different story. Children today are spending an overwhelming amount of time glued to screens, and it’s disheartening. I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness for this generation. Where are the spontaneous games of tag? The laughter echoing in the playground? The joy of discovering nature?

I’d love to hear from you all. What are your screen time limits for your kids? How many hours do they spend playing outside? Let’s start a conversation about finding a balance that allows our children to enjoy the wonders of both the digital world and the great outdoors. Please share your thoughts in the comments below!
