All right, let's talk about this very triggering topic right here.
“Are homeschool kids going to be socialized?”
Okay over the last 13 years in the homeschooling and meeting literally hundreds of homeschool families in my area, I'm going to let you know that I this this is a weird definition.
Everybody has their different opinion over what is considered a “socialized person” and it's a very big umbrella term that’s very ambiguous.
So let's talk about what I have discussed to homeschool moms across the country and in person over the last 13 years.
Some things they've said is “Are kids are going to be isolated alone at home?”
Absolutely not!
We’re all in sports,We're all in activities,We're all in extracurricular -robotics , coding whatever people love to do with their kids.
So, of course, we're not going to be isolated alone in our house.
And then another thing I've seen is “Are they going to be socially awkward?”
Are they going to be weird to talk to in public?
Let's talk about that one because that one’s kind of problematic for me.
Let’s just talk about in general- is every single person in this world an extroverted person. Are they going to walk up be the “life-of-the party” crack all the jokes- be a comedian?
Absolutely not!
That that's so hard to Define.
What I like to say instead, “An I trying to teach my kids how to be situationally aware and people aware?”
I think that's a definition that we need to have in our vocabulary.
Because not every situation is appropriate to say certain things.
Not every situation is appropriate for us to do certain things.
We need to be aware of the situation.
I think that is something that we need to teach.
Also, we need to figure out that not every person in this society and Community is a safe person.
So having the ability to train and teach our children to know what to do in a situation- how to act- what mannerisms - whatdo we need to say?
Are we just going to yell at the first thing on their mind?
Absolutely not!
We need to be aware of the situation-What's appropriate, what socially appropriate to say in a situation.
Are we just going to run up to somebody and start a conversation without being aware of what's happening and What's going on.
We need to have that kind of mentality- of people and situational awareness.
I feel like is more important than this really ambiguous,Very cloudy, definition of “are the kids being ‘Socialized?’”
so let me know your opinion.
I would love to hear from you!
